Printable instructions on how to find Papplewick Pumping Station, SK 582 522

Do not start from Papplewick Village, if you have done so, go north through the old village of Papplewick, follow the road for 2 miles, turn right on the A60 to Nottingham. After 1/2 mile turn left to Ravenshead, follow this road for 1/2 mile, at the crossroads with the petrol station on your right, turn right. After just over a mile turn right at the crossroads, Pumping Station on your right after 300 yards.

Travelling North from Nottingham, leaving Arnold and travelling over Redhill -

Either take the A60 to Mansfield; Turn right at the 1st set of traffic lights, sign posted "Burntstump Country Park - Police HQ". (you will pass another Victorian waterworks on the left, this was Bestwood Pumping Station and now is a restaurant). Turn left after 1/4 mile (sharp exit !!) as road bends right. Follow the road for a mile (number of sharp bends !!) as you pass the brick wall of the pumping station on the left, turn into the second entrance.

Or take the A614 to Ollerton; Follow the A614 for 3 miles, go under the railway bridge and turn left at the island, sign posted; "Papplewick Pumping Station, Longdale Craft Centre, Newstead Abbey". Follow the road for 1 mile and turn left at crossroads, just past the trees. Turn right into Pumping Station after 300 yards.

From the M1 Motorway; Take the Exit 27, A608 to Mansfield. Follow the 'Brown' signs for "Sherwood Forest" then "Newstead Abbey" Turn left onto the A611 to Mansfield, travel through Annesley. Turn right at the next traffic lights, B6020 to Larch Farm / Ravenshead. At the next traffic lights at Larch Farm turn right on the A60 to Nottingham and after 1/2 mile, turn left (follow next instructions)

Travelling South from Mansfield on A60 to Nottingham; Turn left at Newstead Abbey Gates / The Hutt Restaurant, down Longdale Lane (sign posted "Craft Centre"). After 2 miles (past Longdale Lane Craft Centre), turn right at the crossroads. (You can see the tall brick chimney of the station on your right). Turn right into Pumping Station after 300 yards.

Travelling South from Ollerton on A614 to Nottingham; South of "White Post" keep on the A614 when it splits with the A6097. About 3 1/2 miles south of "White Post" turn right at the island just before the railway bridge. Sign posted "Ravenshead, Newstead Abbey, Longdale Craft Centre" Follow the road for 1 mile and turn left at crossroads, just past the trees. Turn right into Pumping Station after 300 yards.
